I have just finished watching Forensic Heroes II and to be honest I was slightly dissapointed. Ok I wasn't fanatical about Forensic Heroes I but I liked it, with Forensic Heroes II it was a different story, I watched it hoping it would be good but I felt it was lacking. The biggest thing it lacked was good cases. The cases just fell flat and were unimaginative, besides the final case I knew who the culprit was without much thinking. The final case was weird, I commend them for trying to hide the eventual culprit but they didn't develop it enough because of that. Their was so much potential in the final case that I felt it fell hugely flat their. Also what happened to Selena Li? Anyway I found Queena Chan to be very fake and extremely annoying to watch, I also didn't like the preachy stuff in the series because it made for extremely awkward watching. I also felt that Yoyo was way underused! Anyway I can't remember everything of the series but overall I wasn't very impressed. If there was a Forensic Heroes III I'd much rather they spend more time on developing cases even if it takes 7-8 episodes for one to finish! I also felt that this series seemed to be a sloppy lead in to the third series, everything about it just felt unfinished! Anyway I guess they want to promote Sharon Chan in Forensic Heroes III like they promoted Linda Chung. I just hope this years next big series won't fall flat like this one did (I'm talking about Moonlight Resonance). Ok as I am going to go away for a while I have decided to make a more thorough review. Here goes!
Relationships
Yoyo and Bobby
What happened, nothing really developed and after watching the whole series I nearly forgot Yoyo was even in it! Well there's not much to say about this relationship as not much happened. The relationship was just their because they couldn't kill off both of the main female leads. They couldn't have done another On the first beat! (Remember when Fiona died and Tavia was dumped!) I'd actually think they should have just dumped Yoyo when they made it seem like Yoyo didn't really think her relationship was going well with Bobby rather than drag her in right at the end!
Kevin and Charmaine
Well I don't know what to say, let's say it was neither great nor awful! They tried desperately to make the relationship seem more explosive (no pun intended) but they didn't really have good enough foundations for it to be heartbreaking!
Frankie and Charmaine
I don't even want to talk about it! So much potential but what happened! Was their even a point to put this relationship in! It was just to lengthen the series so that they could get mroe cases in!
Florence and Raymond
Though only on the supporting cast I felt this was an Ok relationship. It was obvious they would get together anyway!
Family/Friend Relationships
Charmaine's Family
I also felt that this story was underdeveloped and I don't like how after they were all lovely dovely that they just ditched it!
Yoyo and Bobby's family
Not much to say because they didn't do much
Cases
Erm as I said I didn't really like any of the cases. Their was potential in some but they weren't developed at all.
Characters
Bobby Au Yeung
To be Honest I felt he didn't act as well as he has in other series, though it wasn't bad their wasn't anything commendable about it either.
Charmaine Sheh
I think her "trying to be funny parts" were like a carcrash to be honest but she did well in other areas. Still has a lot to improve though.
Kevin Cheng
He was Ok but his role didn't interest me much. I think he did the best he could.
Frankie Lam
Yet again he was Ok nothing outstanding really but Ok.
Yoyo Mung
Didn't see much of her but she did Ok overall.
Supporting Cast
Raymond Cho
A good support, that's all
Florence Kwok
Ok but she wasn't at her best in my opinion
Kara Hui
She seemed a little awkward at times but she did Ok.
Shirley Yeung
She did a good job actually in my opinion.
Astrid Chan
Ok but sometimes seemed slightly fake.
Vivien Yeo
I liked her actually, she did her best in a restricted role
Other notable Supports (for any reason)
The Mr Hong Kong's
Bland, fake and unemotional! (oops slightly too harsh but true)
Chris Lai
He did well, I see potential
Selena Li
Like always I liked her, she is improving which is good.
Bad mother character (in the case where the man burgled her)
She was convincing as a bad mother but her crying scene was slightly fake.
Also one thing I realised was that the background music was weird at sometimes e.g. the music which I think was supposed to be for scary or evidence scenes were overused. Secondly I felt that everytime they left the episode at a cliffhanger the next episode would just take 30 seconds to finish it - bad developing in my opinion!)
I was thinking; why didn't they make an evil main character in detective series!
Overall the series dragged for me, I think they could have easily done this in 20 episodes!
Ok so I have watched:
War Of In Laws II (some missing eps)
Tai Chi
D.I.E.
A Journey Called Life
Catch Me Now
The Silver Chamber of Sorrows (some missing eps)
Forensic Heroes II
Currently Watching
The Money Maker Recipe
Wasabi Mon Amour
So here is my ranking!
1st - Catch me Now (by far the best this year)
2nd - A Journey Called Life (A solid title)
3rd - The Silver Chamber of Sorrows (currently tentative, may drop to 4th)
4th - D.I.E. (not fantastic to me)
5th - War of In Laws II (currently tentative, may drop to 6th)
6th - Forensic Heroes II
7th - Tai Chi
I have a feeling that TVB are using Roger Kwok as I lever to promote other actresses and actors. By putting him in series with these certain artistes Roger will increase their star power e.g. with Sonija Kwok.
Dogs on the beat - basically a Journey of Life cast but Steven acting evil - I'm not sure that will work.
Well I'll be leaving for Hong Kong on Wednesday but I'll be back to post on When a Dog Lover a Cat and Moonlight Resonance!

Update
As I am leaving for Hong Kong on Wednesday I have decided to post on the current series that are airing in England that I'll have to terminate watching until I'm back at England. One of the series that is currently airing is Money Maker Recipe. I am currently about halfway through and to be honest I have no intention of picking up the series from where I will leave it. Though it is an Ok series I find myself really uninterested. As for that I don't think I will be watching it when I come back from Hong Kong. I will likely miss the whole of Love Exchange also but I think I'll watch that one online because it seems to be Ok. I will also be missing Wasabi Mon Amour but I will probably be able to catch the final few episodes in England but I think I'll watch the whole series because it seems interesting (though the acting leaves a lot to be desired!)
Miss Universe 2008 Final Review
Ok firstly the Top 15
Venezuela very expected I would be shocked if she didn't get in. Then their was Kosovo, I didn't want to believe it but the main websites had already predicted her into the Top 15. Mexico, Vietnam, South Africa and Australia were also expected. I didn't expect Japan to get through even though she is in my Top 15, but that just works for me! Then Dominican Republic one of my favourites was also picked. But then the shocks started to come thick and fast. First comes Italy! She's Ok but I never thought she'd get in. Colombia was expected but then in comes Russia and Hungary. Russia was probably a second alternative for me but Hungary was nowhere near my list! Czech Republic and USA were also expected and Spain was slightly expected for me! In the end out of my Top 15 only 5 got through! But I did say anyone around my Top 30 were fine for me and 10 of my Top 30 did go through.
I did think Angola, Costa Rica, Panama, Belgium, Thailand and maybe India should have gone through! I was shocked that Panama didn't get through because she looked like a good Top 5 delegate. Belgium and Thailand aswell as India not getting through was quite shocking also. In the end I think they had too many Europeans in the Top 15 because this year the strong delegates come from the Americas! It's interesting that my Top 15 only has one European but the actual Top 15 has 6!
Kosovo placed 57th for me, Italy 39th, Russia 42nd, Hungary 55th and Spain 37th.
Well where would my 5 Top 15 delegates get to?
Well the swimwear competition was done and it was obvious from the start who they wanted in the Top 5. They basically gave their favourites the highest marks by far whilst the ones they didn't really want got 7! It shocked me a bit. Seeing Japan and Vietnam fall at the first hurdle, it is sad but as I am posting as I watch it I do think the Top 5 are in place already, well maybe Dominican Republic will forge into the Top 5. If the current top 5 will be the actual Top 5 I wouldn't be shocked but actually slightly disgusted! So three of my Top 15 is still in but 4 that weren't even in my Top 30 are also still in!
However they are definitely going Latina this year - like always!
I have a feeling Veneuzela may not win!!! I have a feeling Colombia will do it.
In my opinion South Africa, Japan and Vietnam should have made the Top 10 instead of Kosovo, Russia and Italy.
Well the Evening Gown competition is complete and lets review it. Kosovo did average like in her Swimsuit. Australia did Ok but sadly only got 7.557 because the judges don't like her! Then Spain I thought was hard done by, she did better than both Kosovo and Australia but only got 8.2! Of course Mexico was to get in the 9's. Colombia scored way too high - I am quite sure she is now the one to beat as the judges love her whatever she does! USA's fall cost her. USA you need to teach your contestants to walk now two years in a row the American contestant has fallen! 8.05 is harsh but fair. Dominican Republic did well which is good but she is going to have to fight tough to beat the judges fabourite Colombia. Russia did well but I'm still quite shocked she made the top 5! Italy did well also but was shut out with an awful score. Overall I think the scoring has been very weird.
One thing I got quite annoyed about is that more than half of the show was a hard sell of Vietnam!
I think Russia shouldn't have got in - she is by far overshadowed! They should have added the points together and let Spain in instead!
Hmmm.... Colombia's answer leaves a lot to be desried if she wins now it will surely be a fix! Venezuela's answer was slightly weird! Mexico and Dominican Republic did Ok but I actually didn't remember much of Russia's answer! I was kind of off at that time.
Well I felt this year the interviews were kind of weak! But I found Dominican Republic was my favourite here and before the results are announced I think Dominican Republic should win but of course that is only my opinion! But to tell you the truth Mexico scored highest for me! But I added my prelim scores. Anyway Mexico or Dominican Republic will be a nice winner for me! But I have the feeling the judges love Colombia too much not to place her in the Top 2! But as long as Russia doesn't get any higher than 5th I'm happy!
Actually seeing Venezuela on video it has solidified my opinion that she got way too much hype! Dominican Republic all the way!
One thing I learnt whilst watching Miss Universe was that I hate American adverts! Especially the phone advert where two women are babbling! There are just too many ad breaks and too little different types of advert.
2007 was definitely a better show in my opinion (the first show I actually watched)!
For all the websites that said 2007 was weak well this is what I think. 2008 has a lot of good candidates but very few who really shine and stand out whilst 2007 was more of a mixed bag but had a few who really stood out.
Well the results are in...
4th Runner Up: Mexico - what total babble, how can that happen she is by far better than Russia!
3rd Runner Up: Russia - one place too high actually about twenty places too high!
2nd Runner Up: Dominican Republic - as we all guessed; Colombia and Venezuela makes the Top 2, but they are not the strongest two in my opinion.
1st Runner Up: Colombia - I thought she would win but I guess the hot favourite was too hot for her.
Winner: Venezuela - well it's an Ok result but to be honest I really wanted Mexico or Dominican Republic to win.
I guess in the end we all came to expect Venezuela's win but it was nice to dream about a shock! I wonder if next year either a Colombian or a Dominican Republican will win seeing that the trend has been consistent.

Miss Universe closing in on the final
Well I have just scored the preliminaries and there have been some major changes to the rankings. In the end the scores were so close to make it into the Top 15 that I thought anyone from rank 28 could have got into the Top 15. Well here are my Top 15 after all judging...
Belgium
Dominican Republic
Thailand
Trinidad and Tobago
Canada
Japan
Australia
Venezuela
Angola
Panama
Vietnam
Costa Rica
Aruba
India
Peru
So I guess people who have read my blog know that the newly inducted are Vietnam and Peru. Both of them made the Top 10 of my preliminaries judging and thus have made it into my Top 15. I do have to say though I think my preliminaries scores are the closest out of the three sections so it really could have gone either way for these. I found that if I changed a contestants score in one segment by 0.1 they could drop at least 10 ranks! Anyway others who placed in the Top 10 in the prelims were Ireland, Montenegro, Mexico and Russia. Ireland was very close to making the Top 15 and was only 0.007 away from making it! Montenegro managed to make it into the Top 15 also. whilst now I have a liking towards Mexico but it's not enough at this late stage as she only made 23rd but she only needed 0.039 to make it into the Top 15. Russia on the other hand was too low to make an impact with her Top 10 placement. Georgia made it very close to the Top 15 with only 0.002 points away. The USA had dropped one rank and placed 17th in the end. Norway also dropped out of the Top 15 along with Antigua and Barbuda. Colombia made 26th in the end whilst the UK placed 35th. Estonia on the other hand continued to place at 80th! Anyway I do think better of Mexico now but it wasn't enough for her to make it. However I do think that my Top 15 doesn't represent who I like the most but more of who I think did the best! For example Canada and Aruba places a bit too highly on my rankings I think. Anyway I think My Top 15 doesn't really need to fit the actual Top 15 because I think anyone in my Top 30 would be fine for me to make the Top 15!
Well the biggest jumpers after the prelims were Vietnam, Ireland and Montenegro. The biggest droppers were China, Bahamas, Curacao and Germany.
I just wonder now who will win! I think if the favourites Mexico or Venezuela win I'll be fine but if Peurto Rico or Colombia wins I will be slightly annoyed!
Belgium

Miss Universe 2008
As I am a pageant fanatic I decided to post my favourites for Miss Universe 2008. I realised after looking at a lot of predictions and pageant sites that a few names keep on cropping up (who are considered favourites). My 15 seem to not fit perfectly with the predictions of the main sites but I wanted to show them anyway. As I had a lot of time I decided to judge the contestants on 6 areas (of course if I have more time I'll find some more things to judge them on). 4 of these areas were photos and 2 were videos. I judged the Evening Gowns, National Costumes, their two Swimsuit shots, their Interviews and the Catwalk with their National Costumes. I weighted these categories differently as I felt the Interview was one of the most important areas as there were 5 other areas for the contestants to show their beauty! Anyway I do feel a lot of sites have disregarded the interview section which I find very important - the inside is important to. I did find however that people who scored well on the interview section (in my top 10) all got into the Top 15! Whilst the Best National Costumes seemed to be the least represented in the Top 15. Yes I do think I may have been overly biased towards the interviews but I still think the Top 15 are somewhat deserved (Ok some were slightly unexpected for me! Funnily I chose the Top 15!)
Anyway in no particular order my top 15 are...
Canada
Antigua and Barbuda
Aruba
Venezuela
Norway
Costa Rica
Angola
Japan
Thailand
Australia
Belgium
Dominican Republic
Panama
Trinidad and Tobago
India
I hear a lot of murmurs around! People are probably screaming "Where is USA, Czech Republic, Columbia, Ireland, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Kosovo". Well simply my rankings showed that they did not get into the Top 15! I agree USA is a strong contestant and she nearly made my Top 15.
What may shock a lot of people is that I didn't really find Mexico to be that great a contestant! I may get some hate mail here! But I just didn't see the spark everyone else has seen in her. She was about mid table for me. Puerto Rico and Kosovo also weren't really in my likes at all! Anyway I do think I need to look at Mexico a bit more but currently with the areas I've judged I don't see a Top 15! But I know she will be in the Top 15 because she is getting a lot of attention! But besides that I find it quite interesting why Costa Rica has been out of the headlines. I have looked high and low and haven't found a single website which puts her in any contention! I think she is a worthy Top 15 but seemingly very few people agree! The Dominican Republic and Aruba also seems to fall into that category! One small fact to tell you in my judging was that the only contestant to have placed in the Top 20 in all areas was Australia! She is a very strong and consistant candidate I feel but she seems to always be in second class. In my current Top 15 there was 1 candidate that did shock me, I basically scored the photos first and then the videos (there were definitely about 5 or 6 who dropped out of the Top 15 after the videos section though) Japan was a delegate that did not really capture my attention in the photos and placed a meager 42nd but then after the videos she vaulted into the Top 15. I found her interview to be very captivating (even when I didn't understand her), she seemed very relatable and sweet - she definitely showed a different side to herself in the videos. Another big jumper was Thailand, Venezuela (I hear some gasps!), Antigua and Barbuda, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Columbia and Korea. Whilst I'm on the topic; big droppers include... Nicaragua, Turks and Caicos, Israel, Albania, Russia, Ecuador, Slovenia and Argentina. Albania, Russia and Ecuador all managed to drop by more than 40 places! The biggest jumper was Antigua and Barbuda. Anyway it's interesting how my Top 15 differs to a lot of other Top 15's. I do think at least 5 or 6 of my Top 15 aren't seen commonly in any other top 15. I do hope though that at least half of my Top 15 actually get to the Top 15! But this year I find myself wondering on a winner. I think there are a lot of very good delegates but when you trying to find a winner is very difficult. Last year I thought their were a few possible winners but this year it looks like it is much more open (some may say differently though as I do think the favourite overall seems to be Venezuela). If only Honey Lee was in this year maybe we would see her win the title!
