Just wanted to post about this, this is a program that I always say I'm going to watch but then I seem to forget about it! I didn't watch any of the Semi-finals bar one that I watched on the internet to see if it was worth watching the semis (which I proved it wasn't really) and I watched some auditions, though not the whole way through. I kind of like and dislike the show firstly because it has more variety but yet it lacks variety to actually say it is a multi talent show. The two things that are basically done are singing and dancing (I'm counting Martial Arts as dancing because it is choreographed body movement!). The winners are generally from these two groups, I end up thinking whether I would just rather watch a singing contest. However the one thing that attracted me this year was a number of acts I seemed to like, I still think some acts in the final were slightly lack luster but I felt overall it was a good final - however I don't think the Semis would have been.
The night started off with the Cheeky Monkeys, lovely and cute as they are I felt it was not very interesting, I really didn't see much more than two children dancing to a child's song who could do a few cartwheels, no disrespect to anyone. They were a bundle of joy and that's what I could give them but as far as talent goes I felt they were as far as a good semifinal act.
Ok was the next guy called Andrew Muir, I hope I don't get anyone mixed up. I watched his audition and I didn't find much to be fascinated about, his voice is not amazing and I didn't think the performance was that good. His singing in the final was not good either, like Amanda said he murdered the song I don't know what Piers was thinking, it seems like he is just to nice recently. Basically I would have found it difficult to ascept he was one of the choices of the judges and I would have given him a semifinal at max but he was way out of his depth here and didn't perform at all, I'd rather he squeaked dreadfully in the performance to add some comedy than hear him sing that song again.
Kate and Gin came next and overall I liked their performance, however I still find it difficult to ascept that Gin is supposedly the most talented dog in the world! I just felt that they were thousands of other dogs that could do that and that the judges were just dillusional. The act was ok though and interesting at times but I hate to say it but I think I was in deja vu, I seemed to have seen all of that already! I think it was overall an Ok act but more integration with the music was needed.
I think it was Nemesis next or was it Strike, anyway it doesn't make that much difference. Let's go to Nemesis first, I really had high hopes for this act because these performances along with earth shattering singing are generally the ones that I enjoy the most. I felt however the performance was overall Ok and I didn't really get too excited. I was just waiting for the one money moment but I don't think many or any of the acts seemed to do that (though I'm not a huge fan of Paul Potts he produced the money moment with his performance).
Strike are good at what they do but like Nemesis I didn't find much of it too interesting. I felt they seemed stronger in their auditions. It just seemed slightly underperformed and there was no high point in the performance which every performance should have where it gradually builds up to a high point. Though I like the guys personalities and their talent I felt the performance wasn't really what I wanted to see.
Now we get on to the potential winners -seeing that the show put all of them in the last half of the show!
George was next and I felt it was a very good performance. I liked the music and the rain thing was a great idea though I thought he could of manipulated it more. Overall the dancing was good and I enjoyed it but yet again It seemed to lack a high point! I think something slightly daredevil may have lifted the performance to greater heights. I know I'm picky! However it was the best performance yet.
Now that I think about it I'm not sure if Andrew was the next performance after Strike or Nemesis but it doesn't matter. With Andrew it basically is the sudden shock that makes me listen. Every time I start listening to his voice it gives me a wierd sensation but that only lasts for about 10 seconds. I felt as good as his voice is he didn't really push on the needed parts. I sing in a choir myself and I know with classical pieces they can tend to drag on if you don't variate it and I felt the variation was minimal, the only reason why I seem to remember some of it was because I know the song. Pie Jesu is one of my favourite pieces but I felt his singing technique could be improved especially the gradual changes. There was nothing after the first 10 seconds that really grabbed me.
Faryl was next which leads me to believe Andrew was before George but anyway I felt Faryl was the better singer, her voice is amazing and overall her performance was good, she looks older than twelve though! Though the high point factor also applies with her vocally she did fantastically and I felt beat out Andrew. I however would have liked her to chose something that gave a high point to the song like Nessun Dorma did with Paul Potts.
Escala came next and I felt they were generally good however I would have liked them to create their own piece and have played that. The playing was very good but it lacked the je ne sais quoi.
Finally it was signature though I liked the dancing I wanted a bit more drama, the reason I liked them at the start was because of the drama it included which gave them the edge and allowed the performance to flow. I felt more drama would have escalated them to an even higher stage. I however loved the exoticness of the routine and the music was good. It was definitely one of the better performances of the night.
Overall including likeability factor, the performance and their personalities this is how the order goes for me:
10th: Andrew Muir (if that is his name - let's call him plumber)
9th: Cheeky Monkeys (cute but lacking in anything else)
8th: Kate and Gin (at least that's what I think they were called)
7th: Nemesis (an ok performance lossed them the rankings)
6th: Strike (different)
5th: Andrew Johnston (I don't know I just don't like him as much as the Top 4!)
4th: Escala (needed umph)
3rd: Faryl Smith (lacked a high point)
2nd: I found this extremely hard but then I gave it to Signature because George seemed more charismatic to me.
1st: and it is George Sampson the winner. Though the performance didn't leave me awe struck his personality and the likeability factor gave him the win.
So congratulations to George Sampson and most of the rest of the finalists.
