Just finished watching Moonlight Resonance, in a way I kind of think HOG and MR have been as good as each other but then I think about how HOG still gives me a lasting impression whilst I doubt MR will leave me with such a strong aftertaste! In a way MR was good but lacked the punch that HOG had, not to say it's not a great series in fact I think I will say it's the best series this year, but I still like HOG more - to me MR seemed slightly rushed!
Now for character analysis!
Louise Lee - Personally this character was not as loveable as the one in HOG in my opinion, I still loved the character though. The acting was very good from Louise and in fact I find it much better than in HOG but in 5 years time I don't think it would b her character that would make me remember this series.
Susanna Kwan - You can't love her character in my opinion, yes she was caring for her family but she caused too much controversy for us to love her! However Susanna acted way better than in HOG, she had much more conviction in her acting and she portrayed different emotions well. If I were to choose the winner of best actress she will definitely not be out of the running.
Raymond Lam - Personally I saw a strong performance from Raymond but his character could have been exploited better. I think his character lacked the character that Dak Dak Dei gave us in HOG and if I had to chose between leads Dak Dak Dei would win, but Raymond will probably be one of the characters that I would remember the most in this series. I think his love story with Linda was rushed towards the end and generally I did find MR a bit rushed in the last few episodes.
Tavia Yeung - Loved her, her character was basically a connection between the audience and the series, she did what we wanted to say, she was our voice - that is why we all loved her. Sadly she got much less screen time towards the finale and her love life with Moses was severly cut short - when did they even begin? I feel slightly cheated on that part.
Fala Chen - Like Tavia she saw much less screen time towards the end, I found Fala to be genuine and a nice character, she was like the female version of Raymond. You can't fault them really but there isn't something you would pick out and say "that's what made them stand out".
Chow Chung - As I said before I find his acting to be no different from what his character is in real life.
Kate Tsui - Yes there is still the thing with the eye, and yes there is still some overacting which doesn't work in a series but she has done better, her character was severly nicened up towards the end to fit the storyline - I think a more screentime would have made it have more impact rather than out of the blue. In the end she was a good evil character but her character didn't get enough attention towards the end for us to remember her.
Louis Yuen - Didn't like him that much to be honest, no strong opinion about his acting either, his character could have been skipped and I would barely have realised.
Dexter Yeung - He still has a long way to go in terms of acting and he has been heavily promoted this year.
Mary Hon - love Mary Hon, though her character was annoying at start I found her portrayal a good one - you never need to worry when Mary's here!
Ha Yu - Compared to everyone else I don't love Jo Bao as much as people may think I should. I loved Bao Bao much more than Jo Bao. I just don't really get the same vibe! But it was good acting by Ha Yu and I commend him.
Michelle Yim - I thought her acting got better and better, I was slightly unsure whether I would put her as one of my front runners for best actress but towards the end I felt that she became the centre of attention really easily so I have to say she is one of my front runners.
Moses Chan - I'm slightly dissapointed that his relationship with Tavia wasn't developed more but they were a sweet couple and I would loved to have seen him get more screen time.
Linda Chung - She was definitely out shone by many of the other actresses in the show, compared to HOG she didn't have as much impact. She did improve towards the end I felt but I think it puts Linda back to earth - she still has a way to go if she wants the Best Actress crown.
Lee Heung Kam - LOVED HER!!!! Since she became the nice ma ma I loved her to bits, cute - stubborn - energetic - vibrant what else do you want. She was the grandmother we all wanted. I would die if she doesn't get some recommendation from TVB for her fantastic portrayal of her character.
Chris Lai - It seemed he had much less screen time compared to in HOG, however I found his character to be no more than a filler and it was difficult for Chris to breakthrough and show his skill.
Vincent Wan - I felt for a first time Vincent did Ok however I would much rather see someone else in his role.
Lei Seng Cheung - HATED HIM with a passion, he was probably the only character I ended up hating till the very end! His acting was good though.
Fung So Bor - Her character was a very interesting one, sad that the series muted her character whenever it was getting more interesting!
Bosco Wong - I found the relationship between him and Linda to be slightly pointless and actually kind of boring - I hated the Ju Geuk Geung thing; I'd cringe everytime I heard it. I think the writers tried to hard to get some everyday sayings or phrases that people would remember, I think they jam packed them into the series compared to the subtle use of them in HOG which made it much more memorable.
Wayne Lai - Sad he only had a few episodes screentime.
Astrid Chan - She didn't do as well as I'd hope but I loved her little fiascos with Moses and Tavia
Claire Yiu - I liked her character and her portrayal - for a 5 minute character she did well.
Tracy Ip and Carrie Lam - Why is Carrie the older sister of Tracy! Anyway it's sad that Carrie's screen time was drastically cut!
